The current plan is to implement all JACK1 features into JACK2 and then slowly phase out JACK1 into "bugfix-only" mode (see the JACK2 v1.9.12 release notes for more detailed information).
This feature-parity is pretty much complete now, with a few exceptions that will be finalized soon.
